2024 Stellaris worm in waiting - Pick an uninhabited system with some large planets. Build a habitat there. Make it your capital then build the omega building and boom you got 7 new planets to colonise. My main reason to do it this way was because I was a xenophobic materialist with droids about to go full robot empire.
